Cabo de Gata
Photography was set up by Martyn Thompson, a photographer from London who
became so in love with the province of Almería that he eventually moved to San
José in the middle of Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata in April 2011.

“The purpose of Cabo de Gata Photography is two-fold,
firstly to promote the beauty and diversity of the province of Almería and
secondly to promote respect for nature and the environment using photography”
Cabo de Gata
Photography also work closely with like-minded companies and individuals
towards a common goal of sustainable tourism and have participated in some
interesting projects and community activities since its inception in early 2012.

“We run a number of off-the-shelf experiences that
range from four to six hours duration. For cost effectiveness, we like to run
these experiences with groups of four people but we are finding that these are
popular with couples, especially the four-hour experiences that tend to be more
local. Some people don’t even bring cameras! We also like to prepare
“tailor-made” experiences to suit the individual, these are particularly
popular with more experienced photographers who know roughly what they want but
not necessarily where to go. We also seek to combine our activities with those
of other companies, e.g. companies offering artisan workshops, etc., but we
will only do this if the collaboration doesn’t compromise our vision of
sustainability and our environmental focus.”

Most visitors come
to Cabo de Gata during the summer, which of course is very nice, but the area
has so much to offer at other times of the year, especially from a photography
perspective. The ambient light in the province of Almería has a unique quality
and this is especially so over the winter / spring months where it has to be
seen to be believed.
